The minivan segment has been all but replaced by three-row SUVs. Nevertheless, there are a few contenders, such as the 2024 Honda Odyssey and the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica. Minivans are excellent for families who don’t want the high-riding stance of an SUV.

Buyers can even select leather upholstery for higher trim levels. While the 2024 Pacifica may offer an appealing captain chair configuration, this cuts down the seating capacity to seven. Since the 2024 Odyssey has ample space for eight adults, everyone will be comfortable.
Meanwhile, the 2024 Odyssey’s Magic Slide second-row seats are far more versatile. These three individual seats offer fore-and-aft sliding capabilities. These seats also have the ability to fold flat for more cargo space. Furthermore, each seat can even be completely removed from the vehicle. The 2024 Odyssey comes with active noise cancellation, too. This helps improve cabin refinement by actively filtering out engine and road noise. Furthermore, higher trims have Honda’s CabinWatch® and CabinTalk® systems. CabinWatch® enables the driver to monitor third-row occupants via a rear cabin-mounted camera. CabinTalk® enables two-way communication with third-row occupants. Hence, these two systems are ideal for keeping tabs on small children way back in the third row. The 2024 Pacifica doesn’t have similar capabilities.
Every 2024 Odyssey comes with map lights, cup holders, and USB charging ports for all three rows. All trims also get illuminated vanity mirrors for the driver and front passenger. All trims feature power-adjustable driver and passenger seats with heating. There’s also tri-zone automatic climate control, a lockable glove box, and ambient console lighting across the range. Meanwhile, the 2024 Pacifica does offer some of these, while others are optional. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard for all trims of both minivans. Venturing up the trim ladder adds useful features such as wireless phone chargers and rear seat occupant entertainment systems.
Honda’s smooth and powerful naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 is standard for the 2024 Odyssey range. The engine produces 280 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque. It drives the front wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. All trims include steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. These enable the driver to manually select gear.
Front-wheel drive is standard for the Odyssey. Independent testing has shown the 2024 Odyssey is able to do 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. Testers also noted that the Odyssey is the most pleasing to drive, with excellent handling characteristics for a minivan.
Chrysler gives 2024 Pacifica buyers two engines to choose from. Most trims have a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Front-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is optional. Then, there’s a hybrid variant that uses a detuned 3.6-liter V6, two electric motors, and a CVT gearbox. This variant is only available in front-wheel drive form and produces up to 260 horsepower. Either powertrain needs around 7.5 seconds in the 0-60 benchmark.
The 2024 Odyssey range comes with Honda’s comprehensive Sensing® safety suite. Standard features include automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, and a driver attention monitor.
Also included are adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and traffic sign recognition. Front and rear parking sensors and a road departure mitigation system are standard, too. The 2024 Pacifica has some of these features, but others are optional. Meanwhile, both minivans have a full complement of airbags and child seat anchors for the second and third rows.
The 2024 Honda Odyssey is our choice in this minivan match-up.
